(last updated August 10)
We know many of you have been anxiously awaiting information on the reopening of schools. We appreciate your patience as we awaited direction from the PCPS Reopening Task Force and Polk County School Board.
On Tuesday, July 14, the Polk County School Board voted to delay the start of the 2020-21 school year until Aug. 24, at the earliest. The open date will depend on the spread of COVID-19.
Parents are being provided with three options for the 2020-21 school year. Those options are:
Campus Learning (at a brick-and-mortar school)
Campus eSchool (100% online and enrolled in zoned school)
Polk Virtual School (100% online)
While there is no possible way to completely prevent any risk to students and staff who return to campus, please know that Harrison and Lakeland are working together to lessen the risk. We are adopting many of the recommendations from the task force for Campus Learning. These include:
Switching to an alternating block schedule (similar to what we have done for testing) to lessen the number of times students change classes each day. Click here to see the 20-21 Bell Schedule.
Implementing "one-way" traffic patterns for most hallways and sidewalks during class changes as well as identifying certain doors as entry/exit only.
Moving from two lunch periods to three to allow for students to be more spread out during lunch.
Students will be required to wear masks per district policy.
Random temperature checks of staff and students during the school day.
Increased cleaning and sanitation procedures.

Harrison will also offer classes through "Campus eSchool" to start the school year for families who prefer that option. This will be significantly different than the last quarter of the 2019-20 school year. Logistics will be worked out with our teachers and staff over the coming weeks, but this will allow those students to remain enrolled at Harrison. Please note that students who choose "Campus eSchool" can only attend their classes virtually. They will not be allowed to attend their Harrison classes in-person during the day. Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and Dual Enrollment classes offered to students on campus will also be offered to eSchool students (scheduling permitted). Polk Virtual School
Students who enroll full-time with Polk Virtual School will have to be withdrawn from Harrison. Those students who wish to return for the 2021-22 school year would need to apply and audition to be re-enrolled through our regular application and audition process. The deadline to register for full-time Polk Virtual School is Friday, August 7 at 5:00 p.m.
